The stunning chess player, Abhijit has taken part many times and proved his brilliant caliber in Indian Chess Championship. In his career, he has won two gold medals in the year 1997 and 2000. Additionally, he has also earned 4 bronze medals in the years 1999, 2001, 2003, and 2005 respectively. Most prominently, he was the winner of the British Chess Championship which was held in Edinburgh in the year 2003. Later, he has also received two medals the championship – Commonwealth Chess Championship. As a matter of fact, he secured the second position leaving the first position to Krishnan Sasikiran when the match was conducted at Sangli in the year 2000. As a whole, he has represented the country – India for 4 times in the Chess Olympiads for the time period between 1998 and 2004. Most prominently, he is also responsible for winning 7 medals in the Chess Championship of Asian Team.
Subsequently, in the year 2000, he got a chance to play for the World Chess Championship in the exclusive Single elimination tournament. Unfortunately, he could not win the match against the famous chess player Gilberto Milos. After few years, he also took part in the Asian Chess Championship which was conducted in the City of Cebu. However, he won the bronze medal in this match and the winner was Zhang Pengxiang. He was awarded the title of Grandmaster in the year 2000.
