Anand Amritraj was a former tennis player from India. He along with his brothers, Ashok Amritraj and Vijay Amritraj, were among the foremost Indians to play tennis at the international level. He created a lot of headlines when he along with his brother Vijay became the semifinalists in the Wimbledon men's doubles event in 1976. Anand was also included in the Davis Cup squad in 1974. The team advanced to the finals of the tournament but then forfeited the tournament to South Africa as Indian Government decided to boycott the match in a protest against the South Africa's wrong policies. The duo again reached the Davis Cup final against Sweden in 1987.
He has had a decent singles career but it was doubles event where he has won 12 titles in his 15 years long career. He along with his brothers were instrumental in making tennis famous in India. A lot of youngsters decided to take up this sport after they took Indian Tennis to new highs.
