Who can forget the famous adaptation of Ramayana on our favourite DD Channel in the early days. The massive sets, the glorious openings and the intensely real performances by some of the actors who were later known as their character names rather than the original one. Even today, many of us know Arun Govil as the Ram who was in Ramayana. Not only that single TV series but the versatile Arun has also performed in many Hindi, Bhojpuri and Brij Basha movies.
Arun was born in the religious land of India Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. After completing his schooling and getting admission in the Meerut University he started acting in dramas and plays later. This led to his exposure value to a great extent and he went to Mumbai to start a business when he was only 17. His father's dream for him to become a government employee like himself, shattered as he had plans that were bigger than this.
On the bigger perspective, his idea of starting a business venture in the city he turned his head towards acting where Ramananda Sagar, a renowned name in those days, gave him a break as the famous Vikram in Vikram and Betal, the old Quora of those times! Impressed by his jubilant work he was then offered the famous role Ram in Ramayana. The role embarked an identity which made him Ram in real life. He spiritually started believing in Hinduism more and people regarded him as the ultimate Ram.
His first movie was Paheli in the year 1977 and went on to perform in various movies in different languages. But sooner or later his career came to an end as people never accepted him in a role other than Ram. He then launched his own production company and also launched a TV series Mashaal which he produced and acted in.
He is happily married to Shrilekha and has a son and a daughter in their happy home.
