Arvind Kejriwal has become a known name in the field of politics in a very short span of time. He is the national spokesperson and the foremost leader of the Aam Aadmi Party.
Arvind Kejriwal is a qualified Engineer from Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, and then got employed with the Indian Revenue Service as a Joint Commissioner of the Income Tax Department in the capital, New Delhi.
In 2011, Kejriwal got associated with activists, including Anna Hazare and Kiran Bedi, and together they formed the India Against Corruption (IAC) group. The movement became popular but didn’t get expected results so, in November 2012, he along with some of his associated formally started their own front the Aam Aadmi Party. Kejriwal was elected as the party's head.
The AAP was formed with agenda of working for common people of India. The formation of his own front AAP caused a split between Kejriwal and his mentor Anna Hazare. AAP finally decided to gear up for the Delhi Legislative Assembly election, 2013, with Kejriwal himself taking on against the previous Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit. Kejriwal’s party won 28 seats out of 70 and his party along with Congress formed a government in Delhi. This move couldn’t last long and he stepped down in just 49 days.
In his second innings Kejriwal led AAP to a thumping victory by winning 67 of the 70 seats in the 2015 Delhi Assembly elections, leaving the BJP with mere three seats and for the first time in the history of Indian Politics, INC was left with no constituency.
In his personal life he is married to Sunita Kejriwal and together the couple has two children.
