Ashok Tanwar, an Indian politician, was born on 12 February 1976 in Chimni, Jhajjar, Haryana. He was the youngest president of Indian Youth Congress and presently, the President of Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee.


While pursuing his studies from Jawaharlal Nehru University, he joined the National Students Union of India (NSUI) as an activist and thereby initiated his political career. He became the secretary of NSUI in 1999 and its president in 2003 resulting in making NSUI from a barely existent party to one of the most active parties which were proved by the two times wins in the Delhi University Students' Union elections. He was one of the favorites of Rahul Gandhi, the in charge of the Youth Congress and therefore entrusted him with the post of Indian Youth Congress’s president.
During his tenure as president of Indian Youth Congress, he concentrated on issues like street plays, workshops, and various other schemes were formed to focus on the social problems faced by the general public which was implemented in a decentralized manner, thus, involving youth from every part that is from block to state level. He was also a member of the All India Congress Committee as its Secretary.
Once again Ashok Tanwar showed his hard work and dedication in 2009 Lok Sabha elections by winning against INLD’s candidate Dr. Sita Ram from Sirsa in Haryana where he got just a month’s time to win the battle. He again contested in 2014 for Lok Sabha elections but lost to INLD’s Charanjeet Singh Rori.

Ashok married Avantika Maken in June 2005 and the couple is blessed with two sons and one daughter.
