Jual Oram was born in a very poor family of tribals, Oram acquired a degree in electrical engineering. Prior to joining politics, he was employed at the BHEL for nearly five years. He was a known tribal leader and made his foray into politics in 1990. He created history after getting elected as the first tribal minister from India under Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s government. He was the only one from the party who won a seat from Odisha in 2014 Lok Sabha Elections. He retained his constituency of Sundargarh which he couldn’t defend in 2009 general elections.
Oram won the assembly elections for the first time in 1990 from Bonai constituency of Orissa. After which, he never looked back and his popularity kept mounting. He with his sheer perseverance and hard work earned the position of the President of the state party in Odisha, Oram was instrumental in strengthening the position of BJP in Orissa. In his political career of 27 years, he has been elected as a member of parliament four times in 1998, 1999, 2004 and 2014 assembly elections.
In addition to a vibrant politician, Oram is also a tech-savvy person and one of the handful leaders who run their own website. He is very active in social media. He is best known for connecting with his believers. Many people might be surprised to know that Oram is an avid follower of sports. He also likes to follow the tradition of tribal culture. He plays a prominent role in conserving the primitive tribal living style.
