Kapil Sibal completed his school level education from St. John's High School, Chandigarh. He then enrolled at the ST. Stephens College in Delhi and obtained his Law degree from there. After which he obtained his postgraduate degree in history. He joined the bar association in the year 1970. In 1973, he qualified for IAS (Indian Administrative Services) but decided to set up his own practice. He went to Harvard for doing post graduation in Law and obtained his LLM degree from there.
His foray into politics started after he joined Bar association in the year 1970. He qualified as a senior lawyer in the year 1983. He was nominated for Rajya Sabha in 1998 and that is how he became an MP for the first time in his political career. He served as the Secretary of Congress Parliamentary Party from 2000 to 2002. He after completion of his term in Rajya Sabha contested for Lok Sabha elections and became a Lok Sabha MP in 2004. He defended his constituency in 2009 general elections. He handled the Ministry of Secretary of Congress Parliamentary Party & Ministry of Law & Justice in Manmohan Singh’s cabinet.
While serving as the education minister, he successfully introduced the CCE (Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation) system in class 9th and 10th. He also made some changes in IIT Joint Entrance Examination pattern. He also led to the creation of a new IIT in Muddenahalli and Patna. He is also the first Indian Parliamentarian who visited Antartica.
Besides an illustrious political career, he is also an author and has published various poems.
