Kota Srinivasa Rao was employed at State Bank prior to joining the film industry. Since childhood, he was intersected in acting and participated in various plays during his childhood years. He made his cinematic debut with Kranthi Kumar’s Telugu film Pranam Khareedu in 1978. After which, he was seen in various diverse roles in all South Indian language films. He has also acted in some Hindi films as well. To date, he has acted in 650 films including regional and Hindi films.
After garnering acclaim in the south Indian film industry, he tried his hands in Bollywood films. Though he has mostly been cast to play only the brief roles but his roles are very effective. His performance as Silver Mani in Sarkar and Swami in Luck were among his most noted Bollywood roles.
He like many other superstars from South made his foray into politics by formally joining the political front BJP in the mid-1990s. He was given the MLA ticket from East Vijayawada constituency in the 1999 Andhra Pradesh state elections. He was elected as an MLA and served his five years term as an MLA from 1999-2004. He though never contested thereafter.
