Makarand Paranjape is an Indian Poet, Literary Critic and a Professor who was born on 31st August 1960 in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. He is a renowned personality in the world of Indian Literature and a Professor at the Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi, India.
Makarand is teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students from the past thirty years. He started his teaching career in 1980 at the University of Illonois at Urbana-Champaign. In 1986, he returned to India and started teaching at the University of Hyderabad followed by working as an Associte Professor in IIT Delhi.
Since 1999, he is working as a Professor in JNU. Makarand has published almost 120 academic papers and edited national and international books. He has been the Chairperson of the Centre for English Studies, JNU.
The prolific educationist has been given various honors in his career, a few of them being Homi Bhabha Fellow for Literature (1991-1993), GPSS research award (2006-2009) and Meenakshi Mukherjee Prize for the best published academic paper in India (2010-2011).
He is married to Devaki Singh in 2006 who is the daughter of a former politician, Arun Singh.
