She grew up in Mumbai and attended Cathedral and John Cannon School in Mumbai. For graduation, she joined the prestigious St. Xavier’s college, Mumbai and obtained her economics degree from there. She completed her post graduation in Media from the well-known institute Sophis Polytech.
She made her acting debut with the famous television Doordarshan series called Shanti. She played the title role and immediately became a household name in India. After which, she appeared in few more noted series like Dushman, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi and Aurat.
After establishing herself as an actress through the series Shanti, she got several offers from movies as well and she made her silver screen debut with the iconic Hindi movie Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jaayenge in 1995. Apart from acting, she has also hosted several shows and is a well-known host. She hosted the game show Deal Ya No Deal and reality show like Jo Jeeta Wahi Superstar. She also participated as a contestant on the adventurous reality show Fear Factor and became the first female contestant to win the show.
Even though she was active in the entertainment industry for such a long period but the stint that gave her widest recognition is her stint with cricket. She presented the 2003 Cricket World Cup and was also made the brand ambassador of Indian Women Cricket team. She also presented the 2007 Cricket World cup and has been since then involved with cricket.
She has also hosted a lot of corporate events for brands such as BMW, Canon, ICICI Bank, Puma, LG, Citibank and Accenture among others. She has also endorsed few products herself such as Ebay India, Leher Namkeen and Dettol Extra among various others.
