Meghna Gulzar began her career as an independent writer for NFDC publication Cinema in India and The Times of India. As soon as she finished her graduation in Sociology, Meghna started working as an assistant director for the TV serials such as Kirdaar. She went to New York and did a brief course in film making from New York University in the year 1995. After her return, she associated with her father Gulzar, as started assisting her father on his films like Maachis and Hu Tu Tu. Meanwhile she started writing her own film. She also directed few documentaries for Doordarshan and also directed many music videos for various albums.
She began her full fledge career in the year 2002 by directing her debut film Filhaal which had stars like Sushmita Sen and Tabu. The movie went unnoticed and failed badly at box office. Her second movie was Just Married which released in 2007. The very same year her another venture Dus Kahaniya too was released. She came back after a gap of 8 long years and directed Talvar, which was based on 2008 murder case mystery. The movie was praised and so was she.
In her personal life she married Govind Sandhu in the year 2000.
