Michael went to the National Film and Television School and soon became a documentary Film Maker. He initially began his career with the BBC and covered several projects for them. Some of his projects with the BBC include documentaries on Scottish Islanders, Van Morrison in Ireland, Another Time, Another Place, Making of The Pirates of Penzance etc. He is also very adventurous in nature and has participated in the world sailing race. He raced his yacht from London to Rio as part of this competition.
Michael gained popularity with the movie Nineteen Eighty-Four which is considered to be an adaptation to the novel 1984. Since then he has directed several movies and has also been the screenwriter for most of his movies. Some of his popular works include ‘White Mischief’, ‘Ten Minutes Older’, ‘B. Monkey’, ‘Flawless’, ‘La Mula’ and much more. He has also directed several plays which include Shakespeare’s Merchant of Venice and the Seven Years Hitch. He is well known for his movie Postino. The film was critically acclaimed worldwide and proved to be a turning point in Michael’s career. The movie received several awards including the prestigious BAFTA awards.
