Sandip Ray was born on 8th September 1953 in Kolkata, India. He is an Indian Film Director and Photographer who predominantly works in Bengali cinema. He is the only son of the well-known Bengali director Satyajit Ray and Bijoya Ray.
He began his professional career at the age of 22 as an assistant director on his father's film Shatranj Ke Khilari in 1977. Before which, he helped his father in various capacities including unmoving photographer on set. His first directorial debut film was Phatik Chand in 1983. The film received an overwhelming response and also won the National Award as well. He also directed the "Satyajit Ray presents"; a famous television series which was based on screenplay and short stories by Satyajit Ray. In 1994 he directed Uttoran (The Broken Journey) and the following year he directed Target, a movie based on a screenplay by his father Satyajit Ray.
