Saurav Ghosal was born on 10-08-1986 in Kolkata in the state of West Bengal, India. He is an Indian Squash Player.

Career

Saurav Ghosal is a professional Indian squash player with a world ranking of 15 in 2013.
 
He belongs to the city of Kolkata, West Bengal. He finished his schooling in Kolkata at Lakshmipat Singhania Academy.
 
He played squash in his hometown at the Calcutta Racket Club. After schooling, at the age of 15, he moved to Chennai and trained at ICL squash academy by the retired Major Maniam and Cyrus Poncha. In 2004, he won the British Junior Open under-19 Squash title and was the first Indian to do so. He defeated Gaurav Nandrajog in the National Championships 2006, in New Delhi and proceeded to become India’s number one squash player. He also won the bronze medal at Asian Games 2006. He was awarded the Arjuna Award in 2007 by the President of India. In 2010, his world rank according to the Professional Squash Association was 27. In 2013, he was the first of his country to reach the quarterfinals of the World’s Squash Championship that took place in Manchester, England.  He is currently coached by Malcolm Willstrop.
 
He was also the first Indian to be ranked as Junior world number 1. His first big title was the German Open under-17 in 2002. He also won the Dutch Open the same year. He won the silver medal at the 17th Asian Games. His team was, however, lead by him and was awarded its first ever gold at the same Asian Games.
