Shaji Kailas is best recognized for his alliance with screenwriters Ranijth and Renji Panicker. Shaji's alliance with Ranjith brought forward stories set in the antic backdrop, such as Narasimham, Aaraam Thampuran, and Valliettan.
Shaji Kailas's directorial debut was in 1989 with the flick News, this analytical thriller was semi hit. Although Shaji garnered the attention of audiences with his first venture. In the very same year, he directed Dr. Pasupathy, a political banter, scripted by Renji Panicker, turned out as one of the biggest hit of the year.

Shaji Kailas married Annie in 1996, in a low-key wedding where only the family members and few close friends were invited. The couple is blessed with three sons Jagan, Sharon and Rooshin.
