Sharan was born and raised in a family of theater artists. His grandparents and parents were renowned artists at the Gubbi Theater. His sister Shruti too was one of the lead actresses of Kannada cinema in the 90's. Though he was forced to pursue an acting career by his parents, his actual interest was with music and he used to sing for an orchestra. He released his own private devotional albums and has also sung the tracks for television series.
Sharan made his acting debut with a television series aired in Doordarshan Network. Later he got many offers to perform in various television serials which resulted in director Siddlingaiah spotted his talent and offered him a minor role in his film Prema Prema Prema.
Thus, Sharan made his film debut with a minor role in Siddalingaiah's Prema Prema Prema. Since then he has appeared in over 100 films as a supporting actor and a comedienne. He was well-known for the comic flavor he brought in movies such as Friends, Karpoorada Gombe, Jothe Jotheyal, Monalisa, Pallakki, and Maleyali Jotheyali among several others.
He played his first lead role with the film Rambo in which he along with acting also served as a producer. The film was well received and his performance was praised. After this film, he was cast as a lead actor in films like Victory, Jai Lalitha, Bullet Basya and Jai Maruthi 800 to name a few.
