Shiba Magoon was India’s prolific Basketball all-rounder. In her career, she was privileged to play 20 senior Nationals for different professional teams and states. She has won Seven Silver and Seven Gold medals in her illustrious career. Her career in the court was arguably magnificent but post retirement she became one of the first of the total two FIBA Certified referee women. Presently, she is the coach of National women’s junior team.
She would have made it to the national team in 1993 but due to some problem within the federation kept her waiting till 1997. Once drafted into the national squad, she cemented her place and performed consistently till her retirement in 2010. In the various championships in which she played, she won most valuable player and upcoming player of the tournament awards. To date, she remains the only Indian basketball player to represent India as a coach and as a player.
She comes from a sports background as her father was a cricketer and he made it clear to her to take part in sports. She went to the USA and did Athletic Training Course from South Western Oklahoma University. She took her inspiration from players like Aparna Ghosh, Prasanna Jaishankar, Gautham, Sunny, Rajesh Srivastava, and Shahid Qureshi.
