Shruthi Raj started her acting career as a child artist in Malayalam film Agrajan in 1995. She was next seen in a child artist role in Tamil language film Mannbumigu Maanavan. She made her full fledge adult film debut with the Tamil film In Ellam Sugame in 1998. She was cast alongside youth sensation Sanghavi and Abbas. She chose her credit name to be Soni for her Kannada language film debut in 1998 with the film Andaman. She played the lead role and was well appreciated as well.
She rose to prominence with the Malayalam film Elavangodu Desam in 1998. She was cast alongside superstar Mammootty. She played the female lead. She was heavily praised for her role as Princess Nandini but the movie was a disaster at the box-office. After which, she was seen in some supporting roles in films like Priyam, Dosth and War and Love. She later turned to Telugu and Tamil cinema. Her Telugu film O Chinadaana was a huge hit and ran in theatres for over 150 days. After failing to establish herself as a lead actress she turned to the small screen and immediately made an impact.
She was introduced to the small screen with the Tamil series Thendral. She was the part of the show since its inception in 2009 and remained with the show till it ended in 2015. This soap opera earned her massive fan following. She was next seen in Tamil series office and that show too was equally hit. Both these series earned her various nominations and awards. She is presently acting in the Tamil series Apoorva Raagangal.
