Terrence J spent his childhood in North Carolina. He grew up in Raleigh where he studied at the North Nash High School and at the same time was also working as a DJ at the famous WRSV Soul 92.1 till he graduated from his high school. After which, he enrolled at the North Carolina A&T State university. In the University, he was made the President of the Student Government Association and in addition to that, he was also the DJ for the university's radio station, WNAA. He obtained his degree in Mass Communication in 2004.graduated in 2004 with a degree in mass communication.
Soon after he finished his graduation, he got a job in a well-known sports company in Dayton Beach in Florida. He rose to prominence after auditioning for the host of BET on the advice of his elder brother named Fred Whitaker. Terrence was still working in Florida when his brother informed him about such an audition. He finally decided to board a plane to the city of dreams, New York with the little savings that he had. Though he couldn’t make it through the audition but still not lost his hope. He immediately rented a car and drove to Atlanta for an audition and finally had his share of success.
Terrence finally got the opportunity to host BET's most renowned nationwide radio show called 106 & Park Weekend Countdown in the year 2005. The show is very famous and is broadcasted to more than 60 markets in New York and in abroad as well. After banking on his popularity, he was promoted to host the network's prominent music video countdown tv show. The show was already a hit and he took it to new highs and the show soon became the top-rated show not just in the US but also in countries like UK, Canada, Caribbean Islands, Africa, and even in an Asian country like Japan.
Terrence is also the co-founding member of the well-known formulating and consulting markets plan firm named Jenkins Entertainment Group. His company is specialised in hosting work.
