Vasudevan Baskaran was born on 17th August 1950. He was an ace Field Hockey Player and represented India several times. He was a regular player in the Indian Hockey team in 70s decade.

Career

Vasudevan Baskaran's career highlights were that he has was a part of two Asian Games in the year 1974 when it held in Tehran, Iran in which India were runners up and ended with a Silver medal. A second was in 1978 in Bangkok, Thailand where again he was the hero and captain of the squad which won Silver Medal. He also leads Team India in Champions Trophy in 1978 in Pakistan and returned home bagging Bronze Medal.
 
Vasudevan Baskaran, biggest achievement came when he marshaled the troops of the Indian team that won the Gold medal at the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow. He played as many as 287 International matches for India, including two World Cups.
 
Vasudevan Baskaranafter retirement took up the coaching job and has coached the senior men's national team for 10 years. Under his coaching, India played 187 international matches including biggest tournaments such as the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000, two World Cups in 1998 in and 2006. 2006 Asian Games in Doha.

He also coached The Junior World Cup Men’s Hockey Team in 1997 in Milton Keynes where the boys bagged Silver Medal and Champions Trophy in 1997 in Chennai. He is additionally the coach and mentor of Hockey Indian League franchise Bhopal Baadshah.
