Walchand Hirachand Doshi was Walchand group's founder and an Indian industrialist.He attended Government High School in Solapur and then graduated from St. Xavier's College with a degree in Bachelor of Arts.He joined Deccan College(Pune) but left it to perceive the family business.
He was ambitious and visionary person right from his young days. He was extremely good at meeting deadlines, manpower management, and raising funds.He was the person establishing the first modern shipyard in India.He is also the one who established first car factory and an aircraft factory in the country.
He worked on sugar plantations, construction companies, sugar factories, engineering companies and many other.During early days of his life, he worked as a railway contractor in construction in partnership with Laxmanrao Balwant Phatak.The duo later formed Phatak-Walchand private limited.He was associated with Maharashtra Chamber of Commerce, Industry & Agriculture and Indian National Shipowners' Association as a founder member.He was also President of Indian Merchants' Chamber president.
Walchand group of companies entered in the list of ten largest business organizations in the country after independence.He constructed a large studio titled' Walchand Studio' with the help of popular Bollywood director-producer V. Shantaram after coming back from his Hollywood visit.He was the man with dreams and who dared to make them true.He has his own legacy and after his death, his business is carried out by his brothers.
