Alex attended Helix High School where he finished his primary education and moved to San Diego State University and completed his graduation. During his education, he always took part in extracurricular activities. Therefore, he playing football since his school. He became the part of his school football team Helix Scotties. The football player became two times champion of the San Diego CIF Section championship with a record of 25-1 scores. He also became the conference offensive player of the year and won squad MVP for Helix Scotties. Smith also played with Reggie Bush (who is also his senior football player from America).
 
Furthermore, he also played for his College from 2003 till 2005. During this period, he got victory several times and became a renowned player for his game. After that, he adopted it professionally and began his professional career in 2005 at NFL Combine. After a few weeks, he made his space in San Francisco 49ers (professional football team of America). He got training from Mike Nolan who is the coach of the international football team of the United States. He signed 6 years' contact with 49 million dollars. Smith played in many seasons for 49ers and won numerous matches. During this period, he earned fame like a flame of fire. He became the heartbeat of millions of people due to his playing style.
 
Later on, he was hired by Kansas City Chiefs in February 2013. Here, he performed his game until 2018. He got several victories in NFL (National Football League) drafts. Alex played the 2013 to 2018 seasons. In November 2018, when he was playing against Houston Texans, his leg got injured. He had compound and spiral fractures in his right leg. Because of this injury, Smith was unable to play. The doctor suggested him to take proper rest until his facture got healed. Now, on 16 August 2020, he was again permitted to start football activities.

In 2009, after an affaire of several years, Smith got married to his girlfriend Elizabeth Barry, and has two sons named Hudson Smith and Hayes Smith from this marriage.
