Ashish Nehra a veteran Indian fast bowler is well-known for his subtle variations of line and length, accuracy, pace and a special knack to move the ball off the wicket. His biggest weapon over the years has been his devastating late inswinger that can make the best of the business go down. Having said that this gifted player has had a body which has never supported him. He last played a test for India way back in 2004. It was the inception of T20 cricket that gave him a lease of a lifeline and it is was because of hit that he has been able to make a comeback at the age 36. He showed his worth after getting picked in the 2016 T20 world cup by becoming the highest wicket-taker for India.
 
Nehraji, as he is fondly called these days, made his test debut in a test match against Sri Lanka on their soil in the year 1999. Since then he never looked back and was a regular member of the squad till 2004. He struggled to keep his place in the side after that as injuries and inconsistency saw him slipping down the pace as well. The highlight of his career came at the 2003 ICC Cricket World Cup against England, where he bagged 6 for 23. He was out of the team for a long time but made a comeback just before the 2011 world cup and was a part of the squad that lifted the World Cup after 28 years. He again dropped from the team due to injuries and since then has been only playing T20 cricket. He finally decided to call it a day and will be playing his last match on 1st November 2017 at his home ground in Delhi. He has inspired a lot of budding cricketers and has already expressed his desire to take up commentary or coaching job after he retires.
 
He has been associated with various teams in IPL and finally lifted the coveted trophy in 2016 while representing Sunrisers Hyderabad. He though played only initial few games as an ankle injury ruled him out for the rest of the season. He also played for them in the 10th edition of the IPL and like previous year his journey was cut short due to injuries.

  • Nehra made his debut for India in 1999 at the Asian Test Championship against Sri Lanka, making him one of the few players who debuted before 2000 and was very much active till 2017.
