Basil Thampi is an Indian fast bowler who hails from Kerala. He started playing cricket at a very early age and finally made his first-class debut in the 2014–15 Ranji Trophy season by representing the state of Kerala. He had a wonderful next season and that season helped him grab an IPL contract with the IPL team Gujarat Lions who roped him in at the 2017 player auctions for a whopping 85 lakhs.

 

This young fast bowler from Kerala fetched more moolah than the veteran pacers like Manpreet Gony and Munaf Patel at the auctions. He did get an opportunity to play for the Gujarat Lions in their second encounter against Kings XI Punjab but went for plenty. He then came back strongly and bowled some really good bowling spells. He is one of the great prospects to win the IPL emerging player of the tournament 2017 trophy. Though he missed most of 2017-18 domestic season due to an injury, IPL franchise SRH roped him for his services for 95 Lakhs INR. After warming the bench in the initial few games when he finally got his chance, he proved his mettle by bowling with great speed and accuracy. His IPL portfolio already has scalps of lergendary players like Hashim Amla, MS Dhoni and Chris Gayle among various others.
