Bradley Whitford attended Madison East High School, after her family moved from Philadelphia to Madison, in 1973. She graduated on June 4, 1977, attended the Faculty of English and Theater at Wesleyan University. Afterward, he earned a master's degree in Theater, at the Juilliard Theater Center and began working as an actor in New York. In 1985 he made debut from a low-cost thriller Dead As at Doorman. In 1989, on Broadway started to the artistic bond with Aaron Sorkin on the occasion of the theatrical piece A Few Good Men, where Whitford was the protagonist, while Aaron Sorkin was a screenwriter. In the early 90’s, he played in several television films, including CAT Squad, directed by the well-known director William Friedkin.
 
In 1994, he appeared in 4 episodes of the first season of NYPD Blue, directed by the well-known screenwriter Steven Bochco. Also notable was his participation, even in 1994, of an event, winner of an Emmy Award, of the first season of ER - Doctors in the front line: Love's Labor Lost.
Beginning in 1999, Bradley Whitford achieves notoriety, playing the role of Josh Lyman, deputy chief of the White House staff, in the well-known West Wing series - All the President's Men, conceived by celebrated screenwriter Aaron Sorkin. Thanks to that role, Whitford wins an Emmy Award in 2001, obtains two nominations in subsequent editions (2002-03) and three Golden Globe nominations (2001-02-03). Initially, he had been cast in the West Wing - All the President's Menin the role of Sam Seaborn, though he held the audition for the role of Josh; only later, Aaron Sorkin decided to rewrite the role of Josh Lyman to be played by Whitford.
 
A few months after the completion of West Wing, however, Whitford began working on the new series produced by Aaron Sorkin: Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, where he plays the role of Danny Tripp, opposite Matthew Perry. Twenty-two episodes of Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip were broadcast, but it has not been resumed for the second season. He played a key scene in the last episode of the third series The Mentalist playing a man who claims to be the known nemesis of the lead, John the Red. From 15 August 1992, Whitford was married to actress Jane Kaczmarek, known for playing Lois in Malcolm.
