Dmitry Muratov was born on 30-10-1961 in Samara, Russia. He is a Russian Journalist, Television Presenter, Politician (member of Yabloko) & Chief Editor of Novaya Gazeta, a Russian newspaper. He was awarded Nobel Peace Prize on 08-10-2021 jointly with Maria Ressa, CEO of Rappler.

Dmitry being born in Samara completed his education at Kuybyshev Stae University. During the completion of five years of the degree, he started taking interest in Journalism. Hence, he started working as a journalist for a local Newspaper. After completing his degree in 1983, he joined the Soviet army and served for 2 years. In 1987, he joined the local newspaper named Komsomolets. He worked there as a journalist but as a result of his hard work get promoted as head of the youth department. His term at Komsomolskaya ended in 1992.
 
Then, he started his newspaper named Novaya Gazeta in 1993. The main aim of this newspaper was to bring honest and true information on the issues of corruption and human rights violation. He started the newsroom with very little infrastructure including 2 computers, two rooms, and one printer. Muratov started work as Deputy press editor. During the Chechen war, he was among the front-end reporters to cover the events. 
 
He has to face rivalry from his co-workers and government due to his fearless way of reporting. In 2004, he revealed that the former president of Russia Sergey Kiriyenko has scammed US4.8 billion dollar of International Monetary fund. It was revealed by the newspaper that some amount of the fund has been used for buying property in the United States. After investigation, it was found that the blames made by the newspaper was wrong. Sergey was not found guilty. 
 
Muratov served in the Novaya Gazeta as editor-in-chief for more than 20 years. In 2017, he resigned from the newspaper but again joined it in 2019 on the mutual voting for his name. Th esix journalists of Novaya Gazeta get killed during his term. The reason of their killings  was exhausting nature of Reporting and demand for freedom of press.
