He gave up his studies and started his career at the age of 17, as an assisting director. He did several jobs by working for many TV production house and finally established his own production house, Excel Entertainment with his close friend Ritesh Sidhwani.

 

Farhan began his directorial debut with the film Dil Chahta Hai in 2001. This film was a huge success, especially popular among youths. His next project was Lakshya in 2004 with Hrithik Roshan in the lead. Although the movie failed at the box office, it won him critical applause. His next project was a remake of classic Amitabh Bachchan film; Don, called Don in 2006, which starred Shah Rukh Khan in the lead role. This film enjoyed great success at the box office. He then entered the production world and made his production debut the film Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd. (2007) which also did well at the box office.

 

Then came Rock On!!, in which he himself starred and produced. The film was a huge hit and made Farhan Akhtar a name to reckon with in Bollywood. He then acted in numerous hit movies like Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Luck By Chance and Bhaag Milkha Bhaag among several others. He won a lot of accolades for his performance in the film Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. Besides acting, and producing, he also writes and has penned down some scripts as well. He is also a singer and has sung some of the most famous songs in Bollywood films. He is arguably one of the most multi-talented personality in Bollywood as there's nothing that this star can't do.
