Gloria Vanderbilt came to limelight after she was involved in a battle between her aunt and mother for her custody of the multi-million dollar trust during the mid 1930s.She became a household name after she ventured into fashion, film, and theatre business. She was an accomplished writer and has penned down several nonfiction books and novels.
 
She lost her father when she was still a toddler. While in teens, she became talk of the town after she was spotted at various parties with her distinctive style. She married while she was in teens and again became the talk of the town.  She though divorced her first husband citing his abusive nature and began her acting career. 
 
During the decade of the 1950s and 1960s, she appeared in various TV programs. She was also interested in writing and published her first collection titled Love Poems. She was always in news for her social life. In the decade of the 1970s, she burst into fashion industry and designed jeans which had a swan logo and her signature. The jeans became widely popular and she then branched out to launching perfume as well. She released her maiden memoirs titled Once Upon a Time: A True Story. Her most famous novels include A Mother's Story (1996) and The Memory Book of Starr Faithfull (1994) among others.
 
During the latter part of her life, she appeared on CNN program Anderson Live along with her son Anderson Cooper. Her last memoir titled The Rainbow Comes and Goes: A Mother and Son on Life, Loss, and Love was released in 2016.

She then married writer Wyatt Emory Cooper in 1963 and was married to him till his death in 1978. The couple together had 2 sons including journalist Anderson Cooper.
