Goutam Ghose Complete Bio & Career

Goutam Ghose, one of the India’s critically praised film director, actor, writer, cinematographer hails from Calcutta, West Bengal and mostly works for the Bengali film industry. He is known for his directed films like Paar, Dekha, Yatra, Dakhal, MonerManush. He did his primary education from the St. John Diocesan School and later joined Cathedral Missionary Boys for higher studies.
 
He made his directional debut with his biopic film New Earth in 1973. Later, he made his cinema debut from the film MaaBhoomi in 1979. He likes to make documentary films; another film was again a biopic called Development of Irrigation. His Film Paar cast serious actors like Naseeruddin Shah and Shabana Azmi which was based on the Bengali story Paathi.
 
He made his acting debut from the film Grihajuddha in 1982 and later he acted in a Gayak in 1987, BaisheSrabon in 2011, Ekla Akash in 2012, Chotushkone in 2014.
 
He was among the few whose films were awarded Best Cinematography, Best Direction and Best Screenplay awards at the National Film Awards ceremony. He has also received an award at Oberhausen Film Festival for his documentary film Hungry Autumn. His film Dakhal won The Grand Jury Prize at the 11th International Human Rights Film Festival as well as a Golden Lotus Award for best film. His directional film Beyond the Himalayas won Filmfare Award in 1996.
