Harkishan Singh Surjeet was born on 23-03-1916 in Bundala, Jalandhar in the state of Punjab, India. He was an Indian Politician, General Secretary, Writer & Author.


Harkishan Singh Surjeet Complete Bio & Career

Surjeet began his political career by participating in the National Liberation Movement. He was just a teenaged boy when he made his foray into politics. He was a gung-ho follower of legendary Bhagat Singh. At the age of 14, he got associated with the movement led by Bhagat Singh called "Naujawan Bharat Sabha". His entire career was influenced by the persecution of Bhagat Singh. On the birth anniversary of the legendary Bhagat Singh, he hoisted the Indian flag in 1932 at the civil district court in the Hoshiarpur city of Punjab at the age of 16. For his action, he was arrested and also shot twice.
 
During the pre-war years to ignite a fire in people against the British government, he started issuing "Dukhi Duniya". He tried to escape after the upsurge of the World War II and was arrested for his actions against the British government in 1940. He was imprisoned in the infamous Lahore Red Fort where he was imprisoned for three months in an isolated detention in dreadful conditions. After three months of rigorous imprisonment, he was taken to Deoli detention camp and was in jail till 1944. During the partition, when things went worse, he resolutely worked for public euphony in violence-torn Punjab. In independent India, Surjeet became the General Secretary of Communist Party of India in Punjab.
 
For over seven and a half decades, he has led a political life. He started off with his committed fight against British rule. Then he continued his fight against the people who were trying to break the communal harmony.
 
In addition to a noted politician, he has also authored the books like Happenings in Punjab, Land Reforms in India, and The Outline History of the Communist Party. Besides books, he has also written numerous articles on political issues in the country.
