Jeanne Moreau’s parents divorced when she was just 11 years old. She stayed with her father who was the owner of a restaurant. She got highly inspired after watching the play Antigone by Jean Anouilh that she made it clear that she will become an actress one day. Her father didn’t want her to become an actress but against all odds, she joined National d'Art Dramatique in Paris and started her acting career. 
By the time, she turned the 20s, she started she started getting minor roles in small films. The first film that she worked in was Last Love in the year 1949. She got her initial breakthrough by acting in Louis Malle’s crime drama film titled Elevator in the year 1957. Malle and Moreau’s collaboration became the new big thing in France and their collaboration entertained the audiences with films like The Lovers among many others. Not just their professional collaboration but their off-screen romance too became the talking point. 
Moreau's most renowned film role was of Catherine in the love triangle film Jules et Jim in the year 1962. She literally owned the decade of the 1960s by working in films like The Bride Wore Black, Seven Days...Seven Nights, Diary of a Chambermaid and The Trial among many others. 
She started playing a character and supporting roles in the latter part of her career. For her contribution, she has been named right up with her contemporaries like Catherine Deneuve and Brigitte Bardot. She is arguably one of the biggest legends of French cinema.
