She participated in the Fresh Face Competition organized by Filmfare. She emerged 1st runners up and it paved her way to the Bollywood films. She made her acting debut with the Hindi film titled Man Ke Meet in the year 1968. She was cast alongside legendary actor Suni Dutt in this film. She rose to prominence after her splendid performance in the film, Mehboob Ki Mehndi in 1971 in which she was cast alongside superstar Rajesh Khanna. She gave hits after hits in films like Hamjoli, Jawab, Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Mein Sundar Hoon, Bairaag, and Jaane Anjaane. 

 

Her career though beyond these films couldn’t flourish as she would have wanted it to be. She preferred the roles which were best suited for her and rejected the ones in which she was not sure. She ended her acting career after doing some 25 films. Her last released film was Sarfarosh (1985 film). Her acting career lasted almost one and a half-decade after which, she retired from acting. Some of the famous songs which were pictured on her include ‘Jaane Kyun Log Mohabbat Kiya Karte Hain’, ‘Man Chali Kaha Chai’ and ‘Saare Shehar Me Aapsa Koi Nahi’.
