Madhur Bhandarkar made his directorial debut with the film Trishakti (1999). Two years later, he directed his one of the most successful movies Chandni Bar (2001) and won a national award for Best Film on Social Issues. His other much praised and successful movies include Page-3 (2005), Traffic Signal (2007) and Fashion (2008) which also won him several National Awards. His latest film ‘Heroine’ starring Kareena Kapoor was very well appreciated and critically acclaimed however did not do well at the box office collection.

 

He played a small role in the movie ‘Rangeela’ with Amir Khan and Jackie Shroff and considered this as his first step to Bollywood. He went on to receive the Padma Shri Award by the Government of India in 2016 and hence became the youngest Indian Filmmaker to receive his award. The National Film Archive of India (NFAI) has decided to preserve all his films. He is famous for making women-oriented movies and hence actresses consider themselves privileged to work with him as he brings about the best out of them in all roles.

 

In 2015, he made the film named "Calendar Girls" and his film Indu Sarkar which was released in 2017, won numerous awards.

 

He belongs to a Marathi middle-class family and took up many small jobs before becoming a Director.
