    Mani Rao was born on 28-02-1965 in India. She is an Indian Poet, Translator & Writer.

    Mani Rao Complete Bio & Career

    Soon after she was born, she relocated to Hong Kong and did MFA from the University of Nevada in Las Vegas. She also holds a PhD degree in religious studies from the Duke University. Rao started her professional career by working in television and advertising industry from 1985 till 2004. After which, she served as the visiting fellow at Iowa University from 2005 to 2009. Currently, she is writing essays and poems for journals like Wasafari, Tinfish, Washington Square, Menajin and Fulcrum among others. 
     
    Her poems have been well appreciated and have been translated into several languages such as Italian, Latin, Korean, Arabic, German, Chinese and French. She keeps herself busy by attending literary festivals worldwide. She learned some shlokas from Gita when she was a kid.  She has never read Gita until a few years back and was in complete awe after reading it. She realised that most of the translation lacks the real essence of Gita and so she decided to translate it personally. He translated Gita in English and Bhagwad Gita – A translation of poems was published by Autumn Hill Books in the USA in 2010. Recently she translated Ishavasyopanishad from Gita in English.
