Mark Vincent Hurd was one of the prominent business personality in America. He joined News Corporation in the year 1980 and served there till 2005. He served as the President of NCE from 2001 and in 2002 was made the CEO as well. For three years, he served as the company's Teradata data-warehousing division head for three years. In 2005, after resigning from NCR Corporation, he joined Hewlett-Packard as CEO and President in 2005.

The following year, he was made the board chairman of HP. After his appointment HP became the leader in sale of Desktops and Laptops. The market share of HP printers too increases to 50percent and his efforts were hailed. He was able to solve the company's biggest hurdle of it's merger with Compaq and made it a profitable one in just 2 years of his appointment. The NY Times hailed him by printing "pulled off one of the great rescue missions in American corporate history, refocusing the strife-ridden company and leading it to five years of revenue gains and a stock that soared 130 percent". He was agressive and for cost cutting, he fired over 15000 employess at the time when global meltdown was on. He was named the CEO of the year in 2008 by The San Francisco Chronicle. In 2010, he was forced to resign as allegations were made against him that he that Hurd had submitted inaccurate expense reports.

In 2010, he joined Oracle Corporation as its President and Board Member. In order to increase the sales, he changed the compensation for Oracle's sales representatives so that they can attract more sales. He recruited as many as 4000 people in company's sales force. In 2014 after Ellison stepped down as the CEO of the company, he and Safra A. Catz were made the CEO of the company. It was under his leadership that Oracle's cloud business grew 82percent between 2015 and 2016. It was during his term that Oracle accquired 7 cloud based companies. In September 2019, he went on a leave citing health issues and a month later he died. He has also penned down a few books and the most notable of them being The Value Factor: How Global Leaders Use Information for Growth and Competitive Advantage which he co-authored with Lars Nyberg in the year 2004.
