Telo started singing since he was six years old, as well as playing the piano, accordion and the harmonica. He established his first band in 1997 while he was just 12 years old. He joined the famous Brazilian band Grupo Tradição, with whom he recorded lots of successful albums and also sang lots of singles. In 2008, Teló announced that he is quitting his association with the band; his final album with the band was Micareta Sertaneja 2.
Teló's debut solo album Balada Sertaneja was released in 2009, featuring his hit single "Ei, Psiu! Beijo, Me Liga," Following year in 2010, he released his second album Ao Vivo. The album was awarded gold status. The album also featured the single "Fugidinha," which claimed number one position in the Brazilian Hot 100 charts. The following year in 2010, Teló released his trademark song, "Ai Se Eu Te Pego!," which became popular when Brazilian ace football player Neymar danced to it in a video which was posted on YouTube. The video received several million views and several other soccer players including Marcelo Vieira, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Adrian Mierzejewski also danced on his song.
