Negi began his chess career as a professional player in the year 2002. He participated in the Asian Youth Championship which was held in Tehran. He registered for the under 10 division and won the championship. Till date, he has earned three Grand Master titles. In the year 2005, at the Hastings International Chess Competition, he tasted his first success as a Grand Master. His 2nd GM title came from Parsvnath International Open Chess tournament which was held in Delhi.
Negi’s third GM title was a memorable one where he managed to draw the game with chess Grandmaster RuslanSherbakov in Russia. After winning the third Grand Master title he became the youngest Indian Chess Grand Master and till date is the 2nd youngest chess Grand Master in the world. He has also won major chess tournaments like Politiken Cup which was held in Copenhagen in the year 2009 and 2013, Philadelphia International Tournament which was organized in the year 2008. He was the first runners-up in the World Junior Chess Championship. He also won the Asian Chess championship in the year 2012.
Negi is an outstanding chess player. He was a key player in the Indian team which participated in the chess Olympiad in 2014. The Indian Team won a bronze medal in the Olympiad. Negi has been honored with the Arjuna Award by the Government of India for his substantial contribution to chess. He is a young and brilliant player and has achieved several milestones in his career.
