Raja Ravi Varma was born on 29-04-1848 in Kilimanoor, Thiruvananthapuram in the state of Kerala, India. He was an Indian Painter & Artist.

Raja Ravi Varma Complete Bio & Career

Raha Ravi Varma got traines in the basics of drawing at the Madurai Chithirakara Veddhi. He learned water painting from his guru Rama Swami Naidu and the art of oil painting from the famous Dutch portraitist Theodor Jenson. He participated in Vienna Art exhibition in the year 1873 and won in that competition and became popular worldwide. He painted a woman clad in saree and goddesses of Hindu mythology. Both his paintings were heavily appreciated. In 1893, World’s Columbian Exposition was held in Chicago and there also he emerged winner and ended up winning two gold medals. He mostly modeled Hindu mythology Goddesses on Kerala Women. He travelled throughout country just in search of subjects. 
Among his several paitings the ones which were popular worldwide are Galaxy of Musicians, Sri Rama conquers Varuna from Ramayana, Shantanu and Satyavati from Mahabharata, Gypsies, Noblemen of Travancore Pillai of Kandamath and Woman Holding a fan among others. Impressed by his paintings, the then viceroy of India, Lord Curzon felicitated him with the Kaisar-i-Hindu Gold Medal. 
He was one of those painters who has put his motherland India’s name on World Map. He is roel model of several budding artists. His paintings are considered best. His fusion of mixing techniques of European art with Indian tradition was something to die for. HE was equally famous in west as he was in India.
His biopic has been made in Bolywood by Ketan Mehta and the film was titled Rang Rasiya. A film on his life story has also been made in Malayalam by  Lenin Rajendran and the movie was titled  Makaramanju.
