Ricky Gervais Complete Bio & Career

He studied philosophy at the University College London. There he formed a collaboration with Bill Macrae, ‘Seona Dancing’ and released a couple of singles. He did a live tour as David Brent and also produced YouTube video series titled, ‘Learn Guitar with David Brent’. He also released the ‘David Brent Songbook’ in 2016. He recorded an album ‘Life on the Road’ as David Brent and his band ‘Foregone Conclusion’. Gervais later got into radio career and was associated with the University of London Union and Xfm. After being redundant in 1998, he returned to Xfm in 2001 and joined Karl Pilkington for a Saturday radio show. 
 
In December 2005, Gervais collaborated with Stephen Merchant and Karl Pilkington to release series of podcasts titled, ‘The Ricky Gervais Show’, which went to be the most popular podcast in the world. It also set a Guinness World Record for the highest number of downloads for a podcast. They released more seasons of podcasts including the ‘The Podfather Trilogy’. The podcasts generally covered topics like Medicine, The Future, The Human Body, The Earth, Arts and others. 
 
In his television career, he appeared in a series of pilots on Channel 4 titled ‘Comedy Lab’. He also featured on Channel 4’s satirical comedy show ‘The 11’O Clock Show’ and presented ‘Meet Ricky Gervais’. He also wrote for BBC shows like ‘Bruiser’ and ‘The Jim Tavare Show’. Ricky Gervais along with Stephen Merchant directed the BBC sitcom ‘Extras’ with himself in the role of Andy Millman. He bagged the Primetime Emmy Award for ‘Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series’ for the role. Further, an animated TV series was developed using his podcasts and was aired on HBO in February 2010. Merchant and Gervais also worked together for other television ventures like ‘Derek’, ‘An Idiot Abroad’, and ‘Life’s Too Short’. He also hosted the prestigious Golden Globe Awards for four times. As an author, he has released several books including ‘Flanimals’ and ‘Flanimals of the Deep’.
