Sabitri Chatterjee Complete Bio & Career

Sabitri began her career as a theatre artist in the play ‘Natun Yahudi’, which was based on the lives of refugees from East Bengal. She soon gained recognition and signed her first film Sudha in the year 1952. She has worked in almost 60 films till date, most of which was with Bengali Superstar Uttam Kumar. She still appears in the movie and has a magnificent career of 50 years.
 
Sabitri notable work includes ‘Basu Paribar’, ‘Kalyani', ‘Anupama’, ‘Paresh’, ‘Godhuli’, ‘Punar Milan’, ‘Hemlock Society’, ‘Highway’ etc. to name a few. She was last seen in the movie ‘Praktan’ in the year 2016. She has starred in more than 10 films with Uttam Kumar. Sabitri and Uttam’s pair is considered to be the best pair in Bengali cinema as they delivered several hits together. Sabitri also appeared in mega TV series ‘Sonar Harin’. She played a major role in this series and it was aired for almost thousand episodes. She acted in other TV shows like ‘Jol Nupur’, ‘Tapur Tupur’ and ‘Chokher Tara Tui’.
 
Sabitri Chatterjee has won several awards for her outstanding performance in the movies. She has been awarded the prestigious Padma Shri Award in the year 2014 for her contribution to cinema. She has won ‘The Bengal Film Journalists’ Association’ award twice in her career as a mainstream and supporting actress for the movies ‘Malyadan’ and ‘Kal Tumi Aleya’.
