He first came to limelight when during the anti-congress wave was on and he was still able to win the seat during the MCD elections in 1977.
Sajjan Kumar is a contentious Indian statesman who belongs to the national party Congress. In the 14th Lok Sabha, he was elected from the Outer Delhi constituency. He in his career served as the chairperson of Delhi RuralDevelopmentBoard but resigned from his post after he along with some other Congress leaders were accused by the inquiry report of Nanavati commission indicted them of leading and triggering a large chunk of people to kiss Sikhs in the 1984 AntiSikh Program. Kumar though denied all the charges and the inquiry commission too couldn’t do much as there was a lack of evidence.
On dated 17-12-2018, Delhi High Court has announced to life-imprisonment for his involvement in 1984 anti-Sikh riots.
