Sanjay is the prominent alumnus of the well-known Film and Television Institute of India. Most significantly, he is the founder and proprietor of the production house named as Bhansali Productions. Initially, he started his career as an assistant director and worked with Vidhu Vinod Chopra. During this period, he got a chance to work for the movies such as Kareeb, 1942: A Love Story, and Parinda. Later, he decided to direct his own movie individually titled as Khamoshi – The Musical. Unfortunately, this movie was not successful at the box office. Consequently, he directed the second movie – Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. This movie was an ultimate hit in the industry consisting of brilliant artists namely Salman Khan, Aishwarya Rai, and Ajay Devgan. Finally, this paved the way for a plethora of awards for Sanjay. 
 
Additionally, Bhansali got a chance to appear as a wonderful judge on the television shows such as Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa Season 1 and X Factor India. In the year 2013, he went ahead to produce other movie named as Saraswatichandra. Later, he earned the National Award for his brilliant direction of the movie – Bajirao Mastani. In the year 2013, he proved to be proficient as a Director, Producer, Writer, and Editor, when he worked for the movie titled as Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela. His films Mary Kom and Bajirao Mastani earned his National Film Awards. His recent film Padmaavat too was a huge hit and earned him Best Music Director Award. Through his film Malaal, he launched two newcomers, his niece Sharmin Segal and Javed Jaffrey's son Meezaan Jaffery. He is arguably one of the most decorated Bollywood filmmaker of recent time.
