Sarvepalli Gopal was born on 23-04-1923 in Chennai in the state of Tamil Nadu, India. He was an Indian Historian, Civil Servant, Author & son of Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan (2nd President of India).

Sarvepalli Gopal was a well known historian who is best known for penning down biographies of 2 great personalities, Jawaharlal Nehru and Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. He was born to a politician father and so he too joined politics post his studies. He was appointed as a Director in the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, in the 1950s, where he worked closely with Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. During the decade of the 1960s, he was a reader in Indian History at the prestigious St Antony's College, Oxford. After Jawahar Lal Nehru University was formed, he served as the history of professor in Jawahar Lal University. He then served as the Chairman of the National Book Trust in New Delu during 1970s.

In addition to politics and his career as a professor, he also published some of the best selling books of those times such as Jawaharlal Nehru: A Biography, British Policy in India, 1858-1905, Modern India, and The Viceroyalty of Lord Ripon among others.
