Shakira started her career at the age of 12 and immediately rose to prominence throughout Latin America. Her first album titled Magia was released in 1991. However, it failed to make an impact. She first catapulted to limelight after the release of her album Pies Descalzos in 1996. 

 

In 2002, she released her first English language album in Laundry Service. The album became an instant hit and its lead single, "Whenever, Wherever" became a most popular song. The song was the best-selling single of the year 2002. After this album, her popularity grew from Latin America to all corners of the world. The eighth album of Shakira’s career “Hips Don't Lie" became immensely popular.In 2010, she sang the 2010 FIFA World Cup official song, "Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)". This song is arguably the biggest hit of her illustrious career. This song became the highest selling song World Cup song of all time and it is also one of the most viewed video songs on YouTube with over 1.2 billion views. Her last album Shakira was released in 2014. She has won numerous awards for her singing career.

 

Apart from singing, she has served as a coach and mentor on the American Version of The Voice. She is also a songwriter, "Objection", from the album "Laundry Service" was the first English song that she wrote. In her leisure time, she also loves to play sports like Tennis, Basketball, Golf, and Swimming. She is in mid-40s but is still performing and recently she performed along with JLO at Superbowl in January 2020.
