Sitakant Mahapatra was born on 17-09-1937 in Cuttack in the state of Odisha, India. He is an Indian Poet, Literary Critic, Writer, Essayist, IAS Officer, Translator, Civil Servant & Author.
Sitakant Mahapatra did his schooling from (Korua government high school).In 1957, he obtained his B.A degree from "Ravenshaw College, Cuttack' and in 1959 he got his master's degree from Allahabad University in Political Science. Before appearing for an IAS examination, he taught at the Utkal University under the Postgraduate department for two years.
In 1961, he became the first topper from Odia who tops in the statewide examination, and he joined the IAS, and he worked on the many important posts such as president of (UNESCO) (1994-96), Secretary Post in the Ministry of Culture under the Govt of India. He had various other reputed posts including he served as the Sr fellow of the (University of Harvard), an Honorary fellow at Cambridge University for International Academy of Poets. And the chairman of the N-Delhi (International Academy of Poets).
In 1963, his first Odia poetry published named "Dipti O Dyuti." And in 1967, his sec collection of poems was published named "Ashtapadi" and the third one published in 1971 was "Sara Akash."For that he won the "Sahitya Akademi Award" conferred to him by the "Sahitya Akademi." In those following years his 350 Odia poems were published and also the 30 English publications on the culture and literary criticism. From (1975-77) he studied the tribals of Eastern India under the Homi Bhabha Fellowship program.
