Thomas Chandy completed diploma from Institute of Engineering Technology in Chennai in Telecommunication Engineering. He made his foray into politics while he was still studying in college. He became a student leader at the Kerala State University. He also became the Youth Congress President. 

 

After completion of his college studies, he joined the business and after 20 years of staying away from politics, he again joined politics. He contested as a DIC(K) candidate in 2006 Kerala Assembly Elections.  He regained his seat in 2011 state elections as well.This time, he contested on LDF ticket. In both the occasions, he defeated Dr. KC Joseph KEC. In 2016 to he defended his constituency by defeating Jacob Abraham with a margin of over 50000 votes.

 

Among his business interests, he has his interests in the fields of hospitality and education. He owns a school in the capital city of Saudi Arabi, Riyadh. He is chairman of Indian Public School, Indian Central School and United Indian School in Kuwait. With his net worth of over 92crores INR, he is the richest MLA of Kerala legislative assembly. 

 

In addition from being a noted politician and a businessman, he is a highly committed social worker both in Kerala and Kuwait. He is the chairman of the charitable trust named Daveedputhra Charitable Society. Through this trust, he is building houses for more than 5000 families and also providing them with healthcare, sanitation facilities and also the educational assistance among other services.
