Vijay R Rupani obtained his BA degree from Dharmendrasinhji Arts College and a law degree from Saurashtra University in Rajkot. He is considered a brilliant leader who is born with leadership skills. He started his political career by joining RSS in the year 1971. 

 

During his college days, he was a highly active member of ABVP. He protested highly during the dark days of emergency and was even imprisoned. From 1978 to 1981, he served as spokesperson of RSS. He took giant strides after he was elected as Mayor from Rajkot in 1996. In 2006, he was appointed as the Gujarat Tourism chairman. He became highly popular among all because of his soft-spoken nature. He served as General Secretary of Gujarat’s BJP unit four times. He was sent to Rajya Sabha in 2006 and served his full term there till 2012. He was inducted into Anandiben Patel’s cabinet in 2014 and served as the Minister of transport, labor, employment, and water. 

 

After Anandiben Patel was removed from her position, he was chosen as the 16th Chief Minister of Gujarat in 2016. During his term as the Chief Minister of Gujarat. During his term, he made various reforms, and most notable of them being Shramik Annapurna Yojana through which, he provided a nutritious meal to all the workers working at the construction site at just Rs.10. He has come a long way in his career before finally being chosen as the Chief Minister of Gujarat. In the upcoming state elections in Gujarat, he has been projected as BJP’s Chief Ministerial candidate.

 

On 11-09-2021, he resigned from the post of Chief Minister of Gujarat.
