Vinesh Phogat was born on 25-08-1994 in Bhiwani in the state of Haryana, India. She is an Indian Wrestler.


Vinesh Phogat Complete Bio & Career

Vinesh Phogat is a top-notch female wrestlers from India who has won a number of medals for her country by winning them at various competitions all across the globe. She belonged to a traditional wrestling family of Phogat from Haryana. She was introduced to wrestling by former wrestler and her uncle Mahavir Phogat. Like her cousins Geeta, Babita, and Ritu, she too was trained by Mahavir Phogat. She came to limelight after she won a bronze medal in 2013 at the Asian Wrestling Championship held in New Delhi. She participated in the 51kg category and since then has never looked back. In the same year, she clinched a silver medal in the 51kg category at the Commonwealth Wrestling Championship in South Africa.
 
She earned a lot of recognition after she moved from 51 to 48kg category at the Comonwealth Games 2014 held in Glasgow, Scotland. She was up against the top seeded grappler Yanna Rattigan in the finals but against all odds, she clinched the gold medal. The very same year, she won a bronze medal at the 2014 Asian Games as well. She was India’s medal prospect at the 2016 Rio Olympics but suffered a he setback after she broke her knee during the quarterfinal match. The same year though, she was awarded the Arjuna Award.
 
She remained out of the scene for some time but came back with a vengeance and clinched a silver at the Asian Wrestling Championship held in Kyrgyzstan in the year 2018. She made that year by winning back to back gold at the 2018 Common Wealth Games and 2018 Asian Games in 50kg free style wrestling category. She carried her strong form in the 2019 season as well and won a hat trick of gold after winning the Spain Grand Prix, Yasar Dogu Iternational, and Poland Open tournaments. She shifted from 51kg category to 53kg in 2019 and will be India’s biggest medal prospect in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
