While he was in his second year at University, Young saw an episode of This Morning and learned that This Morning will be holding a contest to accommodate members of a new boy band. An audition tape was mailed by him to the producers and he was picked among 75 others to give an off-camera audition. Out of those 75, 9 were finalized and young being one of them were asked to perform on the show. After watching Young’s performance by the judges he finally got selected in the band.

 

In 2002 Young’s first single which was a double A-side, Evergreen and Anything is Possible was released. It entered the UK chart at Number 1 position and held that position for three straight weeks. In first three weeks of its release, 1.1 million copies were sold. In 2003 he won the Best British Breakthrough Artist Award. His second Album Friday’s Child was released in December 2003 and entered the UK chart album at number 1 position. 

 

Along with singing Young has made his mark in the field of acting as well. He made his acting debut in 2005 with the feature film Mrs. Henderson Presents. After which he has acted in several other Television series like Skins, A Night With Will Young and Strictly Come Dancing to name a few.

 

In 2002, Young made it official that he is a gay.
