She met Christopher Wallace, aka the Notorious B.I.G., at this time. They had a romantic and professional connection. Their relationship was complicated and tumultuous, but Biggie remained an influential figure in her life until he died in 1997.

Kim has faced several legal issues throughout her career, one of which occurred in 2001 following a shootout outside Hot 97’s radio station in Manhattan. The altercation involved members of Kim’s entourage and those of rapper Capone-N-Noreaga, allegedly stemming from a beef between Kim and rapper Foxy Brown.

She testified before a federal grand jury in connection to the shootout, but in 2005, she was convicted of perjury and conspiracy for lying to the jury. Specifically, she denied that two of her friends were involved in the incident, even though surveillance footage and testimony suggested otherwise.

In July 2005, she was sentenced to a year and a day in prison and fined $50,000. She served approximately ten months in a Philadelphia federal prison and was released in July 2006.

On July 23, 1996, Kim was arrested for possession of marijuana after police raided the home of The Notorious B.I.G. in Teaneck, New Jersey. The police had initially arrived to request that an illegally parked car be moved but detected the smell of marijuana inside the house.

Although Kim was inside, she denied smoking, claiming she had been “upstairs all day sleeping.” However, on March 17, 1999, the Teaneck police issued an arrest warrant for her after she failed to appear in court for the charges related to the 1996 incident.

She was later removed from Teaneck’s wanted list in October 2003 after $350 in bail was posted on her behalf. In addition, she faced legal and financial issues.

Her other notable relationship was with Mr. Papers, aka Jeremy Neill. They dated from 2012 to 2014 and then again from 2020 to 2021.

On June 9, 2014, Kim and Neill welcomed a daughter named Royal Reign, a model.
